"Keep Em' Warm" coat drive.
County Commissioner Hughes' 15th annual "Keep Em' Warm" drive was truly unforgettable! It all began with a simple observation back in 2008 when Commissioner Hughes noticed children walking to school without coats in the chilly weather. Inspired by this, she initiated a coat drive to help keep our community warm during the winter months. Traditionally, coats are collected after Thanksgiving and distributed during the Christmas holidays. This past year, the drive was overwhelmed by the generosity of community members, with 580 new and gently used coats donated!
A special shoutout to Kelly's Cleaners of Tifton, Georgia, who has been a steadfast partner in this initiative, generously offering to dry clean the gently used coats. These coats are then distributed to children in local schools and throughout the community.
On behalf of the Tifton Housing Authority, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Commissioner Hughes and the entire Tifton community for their kindness and generosity in providing warmth and comfort to the children of Peterson Apartments!
Resident Services News
Residents of Peterson Apartments were treated to an early Christmas surprise thanks to the generosity of City Councilman Lester Cromer Jr! As part of his commitment to giving back, Councilman Cromer hosted an annual "Community Christmas" event in Pucket Park, bringing joy to children in District 3.
This heartwarming event was made possible by the support of various businesses and organizations, including Chino and Letty's Event Center, the Tifton Fire Department, the Tifton Police Department, and several food truck vendors. Patrons enjoyed festive activities while contributing to the cause by donating cash, toys, and clothes for children ages 0 to 10.
The donations were used to create special gift bags for the children, which were delivered the following day. The Tifton Housing Authority extends heartfelt gratitude to Councilman Cromer and the entire Tifton community for spreading holiday cheer to the children of Peterson Apartments!
